Francis Nhando is a Zimbabwean war veteran.
Career
Nhando was appointed the Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans Association national political commissar in 2014 following the ouster of Jabulani Sibanda.[1] He was also the Masvingo provincial war veterans’ chairperson.[2]
Call On Mugabe To Resign
At a meeting held on 21 July 2016, Nhando and other war veterans allegedly released a communique that denounced Robert Mugabe's leadership. Nhando called on Mugabe to resign,
We are saying this country will only go up when Mugabe steps aside because his management is no-longer respected by anyone, including his own ministers. If he announces his retirement date the economy will improve because there is nobody who will invest his money where the future is uncertain. Nobody will lend money to a 92-year-old and if he does not step aside, 2018 will be the most difficult year to campaign for us as war veterans. How do you campaign for someone you do not like and who does not like you either. The relationship between us as war veterans and the president has broken down.
Arrest
Nhando was arrested together with Victor Matemadanda during the bail hearing of fellow war veteran Douglas Mahiya on August 1, 2016. He was arrested for his involvement during the meeting that produced the communique that denounced Mugabe.
