Mayor Justice Wadyajena is a politician, who was elected to be the Member of Parliament (MP) of the Gokwe-Nembudziya constituency after the July 31st election of 2013 in which the Zimbabwe African National Union Patriotic Front (ZANU PF) is said to have won resoundingly. He is one of the so called 'Young Turks' incorporated into the party.
Justice Mayor Wadyajena was born in Bulawayo on Has birthdate::19 November 1980, though his home area is Nembudziya in Gokwe. He was enrolled at Chinyetu Primary School for his primary education as well as at Chinyetu Secondary School for his secondary education. He is said to have graduated from UNISA and at the Women's University in Africa. He has a daughter with former partner Wadzanai Mudare.
Wadyajena joined the ZANU PF Youth League in 2002. He rose through the ranks and this subsequently led to his election as the MP for Gokwe-Nembudziya in 2013. It has however been reported that, Wadyajena's ascendency to be the MP of Gokwe-Nembudziya was orchestrated by Emmerson Mnangagwa. Flora Bhuka had long been the MP for Gokwe-Nembudziya but as a result of the Factionalism in Zanu-PF 2014 fiasco, Mnangagwa is said to have turned his back on Bhuka. Bhuka was aligned to the Mnangagwa camp but she later jumped ship and joined the Joice Mujuru camp. Mnangagwa is said to have sponsored Wadyajena and he was triumphant in the primary elections defeating Bhuka. Wadyajena subsequently won during the July elections. Wadyajena is also the chairman of the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Youth, Indigenisation and Economic Empowerment which oversees the operations of the Youth, Indigenisation and Economic Empowerment ministry. Through that position which Wadyajena occupies, he has had several clashes and altercations with the former minister of that ministry, Saviour Kasukuwere.
Tax Evasion Allegations
In June 2014, Wadyajena was accused by the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority for evading to pay tax which amounted to over US$3 million for his company, Mayor Logistics Pvt Limited (a company in the business of fuel and transport operations). Wadyajena however fumed over the allegations arguing that it was the price for him to pay for establishing himself as a relentless pursuer of truth. This was mainly because the charges came after he had clashed with Saviour Kasukuwere over the use of funds under the Youth Fund established to necessitate the indigenisation programme. Wadyajena appealed to the Constitutional Court (ConCourt) to clear his name from being dragged through mud.
Wadyajena had been appointed by Robert Mugabe in September 2013 to be the Chairperson of the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee for Youth, Indigenisation and Economic Empowerment. He was thus accusing Kasukuwere for abusing the youth funds amid reports that it benefited those close to him including his brother Tongai Kasukuwere. Fearing for his life, Wadyajena wrote a letter to Jacob Mudenda explaining to him his ordeal highlighting that he was receiving death threats from Kasukuwere. He also highlighted that, there were several attempts organised to silence him for his astute position on corrupt ZANU PF officials.
In 2013, Wadyajena's former lover, Wadzanai Mudare demanded US$11 600 from Wadyajena to cater for their daughter. Mudare explained that, Wadyajena regarded himself as a wealthy man who owns a haulage truck company, six state of the art personalised vehicles, a residential property in Borrowdale Broke and someone who could afford to send his three childern to Heritage School paying US$2 200 for each child. Wadyajena denied all this arguing that Mudare was just a gold digger. He appealed to the courts stating that he was capable of paying US$200 a month. The court ruled that he was to pay US$1 500.
Wadyajena together with Walter Magaya were accused of bribing Tarzen Mandizvidza, the ousted General Manager of the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC)and senior business reporters to cover their political and business stories. Bruce Chahwanda was fingered out as being the one who was sent by Mandizvidza to make consecutive trips to Gokwe while Jackie Gwemende was in Midlands and was the Midlands Correspondent. It follows that, she was supposed to cover what was happening in the Midlands Province, but alas Chahwanda was mandated to do so especially when it had something to do with Wadyajena. The Anti- Corruption Commission opened a case to investigate the matter and the results of the matter are yet to be published.
Campaigning for Grace Mugabe in 2014
Wadyajena was one of the many ZANU PF officials who led the calls for the elevation of the First Lady when she went into mainstream politics after her nomination to led the Women's League in 2014. He stated then that, the First Lady was one of the few people who was capable of uniting the party and thus should not limit herself to the Women's League. He was quoted saying, he did not want the first lady to end with her post in the women's league but should even aim for the vice presidency. Wadyajena also defended the First Lady's doctorate degree stating that she did her degree in silence and nobody knew that she was going to graduate with a doctorate unlike others who make noise about their issues.
Arrest for Insulting Grace Mugabe in 2015
At the December 2015 Zanu-PF conference held in Victoria Falls, Wadyajena was arrested for allegedly insulting the first lady Grace Mugabe. He was accused of having insulted the First Lady by asking another party member, Jimayi Muduvuri, to remove her posters on his car and is reported to have uttered some unprintable insults. A Zanu-PF disciplinary committee dismissed the allegations saying it did not understand why Wadyajena could have asked Muduvuri to remove the First Lady’s posters from his car because Wadyajena was one of the first to put the posters on his vehicles including the one that he was using that day. Wadyajena however had to appear in court. Wadyajena was acquittted of the charge of denigrating the Grace Mugabe by a Victoria Falls resident magistrate on 12 January 2016.
- Wadyajena rejected an official vehicle offered to him through the Parliament Vehicle Loan Scheme.
Wadyajena argued that he did not take delivery of that vehicle because that is not the reason why he was elected into office.
