Career

Lionel entered the payments industry in 1980. As an employee of BankservAfrica (formerly ACB) for 35 years his focus has been predominantly on National Payment Systems. During his time with BankservAfrica he fulfilled multiple roles including the management of cheque and EFT processing operations, computer operations and implementing and general management of processing bureaux. In 2003 he took on the role of business development for the company which culminated in the initial implementation of the Namclear ACH in Namibia. Staying close to the project to its completion he took on the role of project manager with responsibility for the delivery of a fully functional EFT and cheque clearing and settlement system. Following the Namibian project Lionel began to specialise in the study of national payment systems across Africa and is privileged to have visited many African countries in this role. He was a co-founder of the SADC Clearing House Association, otherwise known as SACHA.
