<vote /> Power pylons in Zimbabwe.JPG The electricity demand in Zimbabwe has reduced by about 40% significantly over the past 15 years due to an economic slowdown in the country. The country's power demand has reduced from about 2,200 megawatts in 1999 to now just 1,400MW.

The revelation was made by Energy and Power Development Secretary Partison Mbiriri who said that an often media quoted figure of 2,200MW power demand was just an outdated figure from back in 1999.

He told the Herald:

“The 2 200MW that is widely reported was for 1999, our demand is now around 1 400 MW. We are generating 1 000MW leaving a deficit of 400MW but on a good day we can go up to 1 200MW. We are importing 50MW during the day and 300MW (From South Africa) during the night"
