The Zimbabwe Chevrons as Zimbabwe's cricket team, as they are affectionately known by their cricket fans, were bowled out for 164 in 77.5 overs by New Zealand in the first test innings in Bulawayo today.

This is the seventh lowest test score against New Zealand whom Zimbabwe have never beaten in a Test match. Zimbabwe won the toss and elected to bat first. New Zealand bowler Neil Wagner claimed six wickets in the first innings against Zimbabwe.

Donald Tiripano and Prince Masvaure put a ninth-wicket stand worth 87, which was the highest of their innings before Masvaure was trapped leg before wicket by Southee. Tiripano faced more balls than any of his team-mates and found the boundary six times and struck one six, when he sent a Sodhi delivery into the stands, while surpassing his previous highest Test score of 15 to post 49 runs off 162 balls.

This is Zimbabwe’s first assignment in the longest format of the game after their three-match series against Bangladesh in 2014. The match was not broadcast live on ZBC amid rumours that the national broadcaster had been offered the feed for free but experienced a technical fault, which prevented it from broadcasting the first Test.

New Zealand are currently batting.
