Twimbos is a popular word on Zimbabwes's social media and is usually used to refer to Zimbabweans who use Twitter. The name Twimbos is a result of a combination of two words, Zimbos- a word used to refer to people of Zimbabwean origin; and Twitter, a social media platform which enable people to network, share news among other things.

Background

Twimbos started as a hashtag (#) which circulated on Twitter. It was eventually taken over by a group of Zimbabweans who created a website out of the name. It became a nonprofit unincorporated association made up of but not limited to Zimbabwean Twitter users who had come together to see to the aid of disadvantaged people in societies and to help make a difference. It operated under the name Twimbos Giving Hope (#TwimbosGivingHope).

The group was largely philanthropic in approach and on 24 December 2014, the group visited Tichakunda Children's Home with some donations raised through Twitter and other social platforms.

Vision

To be a unique, social–media driven, pace setting, charitable and development orientated, association that stands as a conduit of resources both tangible and intangible for charitable organisations.[1]
