Harare flood victims claim that the government has abandoned them

The heavy rains which resulted in flash floods in the last three weeks have negatively affected people who live in informal settlements such as Hopley.   The floods have caused pit latrine toilets and septic tanks to overflow. Some people have been left homeless whenn their houses collapsed while others lost all their stocks of food and had their property destroyed.    GroundUp reports that Dapi College in Hopley which caters for 172 students from grades 1 to 7  lost its two classroo0oms.  Lessons are now being done in a shed owned by a church.

Residents of Hopley have accused the government of abandoning them.  They say they are yet to receive any sort of aid

Bothwell Petro, a representative of  Harare City Town Clerk said the said was not aware of the issue but promised to look into it.  He said:

Our social services department will investigate soon.
