Bulawayo City Council says it will continue with water shedding despite dams being 56% full with water estimated to last three years

Bulawayo City Council (BCC) has said that its dams are now 56% full with the water expected to last 35 months, a number above Zimbabwe National Water Authority (Zinwa) which said most of the country’s urban centers have water that will last 21 months.

Responding to The Chronicle’s emailed questions, BCC public relations officer Miss Bongiwe Ngwenya said that based on the consumption patterns, Bulawayo’s dams will last about three years. She also said that although water rationing has been suspended, water shedding is still in place and encouraged residents to conserve water.

Bulawayo United Residents’ Association challenged BCC to find a lasting solution to the water situation in the city during a period that they say they have water.
