Pictures: Nandos building collapses in Bulawayo
A building along Jason Moyo in Bulawayo, which houses Simba Brands restaurant Nandos collapsed today. The building suffered extensive damage after the parapet ceiling (pavement ceiling) collapsed. It’s been reported that a number of people were seriously injured, at the time of writing it was four, although so far no fatalities have been reported. Well-wishers and first responders from the Fire Brigade department helped some of the injured people. Some of the people were partially buried by the rubble from the collapsed building.
This is the second building which houses a Simba Brands restaurant to collapsed, after a Chicken Inn opposite Tredgold Building also collapsed in December 2015. Then there were no fatalities although an unknown number of people were injured. So far, unconfirmed reports say that the building was renovated just three years ago. This has led to speculation on the quality of workmanship as well as health and safety concerns. Some section of Zimbabweans on social media sites such as Twitter and Facebook are calling for an investigation, into the quality of work, to ensure that there is no repeat of such accidents in future.
Some have even called for the people who were affected, especially the ones seriously injured to sue Nandos for medical costs as well compensation.
