Yesterday, nurses issued the government with a notice to go on strike and join the medical doctors who have now reached two weeks since they went on strike.
The nurses, as well as other civil servants, are not happy that the government keeps postponing the meeting to discuss the 2016 Bonus payment options. The nurses also complained that they are overworked due to short staffing.
Enock Dongo, the Secretary general of the nurses association, spoke to the Daily News yesterday saying
This postponed meeting was itself supposed to have been held on February 20, and even that one was supposed to have been held much earlier.
Our constituency has now told us that if we do not come back with bonus dates, they will be forced to engage in industrial action and not offer their services.
Already, the nurses are overworked because they are short-staffed … and government should look into employing more nurses as they are burnt out.
