Magistrate reprimands two corrupt policemen for fabricating kidnapping charges after failing to get a bribe

Chivhu Magistrate Fadzai Mutombeni acquitted a first class bus crew who had been accused of kidnapping two policemen. In her ruling, Magistrate reprimanded the two policemen Detective Constable Austin Chakwenya and Constable Cephas Munyamana for fabricating the case after the bus crew refused to pay a bribe.

It was also revealed that Chakwenya and Munyamana have a fraud case pending against them at the Harare Magistrate’s Court after they were allegedly caught red-handed receiving a bribe.

The court heard that the bus was stopped at a roadblock in Chivhu and cleared to pass. However, after being cleared the two cops boarded the bus and went on to demand a bribe. When the crew refused to give them the bribe, the cops refused to get off. The bus crew then continued with its journey and when the bus arrived at Beatrice the cops arrested the bus crew of kidnapping them and arrested them.
