Former Zanu-PF deputy minister on trial for attempting to sell pangolin

Former deputy minister of energy and Zanu-PF MP for Nyanga North Hubert Nyanhongo has gone on trial for illegally possessing a pangolin. The trial began on Tuesday in Chipinge. The MP pleaded not guilty and if he is convicted he faces a minimum of 9 years in prison.

Nyanhongo was arrested on the 1st of April after allegedly attempting to sell the pangolin for $5 000 to undercover game ranchers. The pangolin was discovered in his vehicle and the MP was charged with possession of a pangolin and attempting to sell the endangered species. He is being charged along with Samuel Samson (42), Misheck Satuku (47) and Positive Mutenda (29).
