A relative of Higher Education Minister, Professor Jonathan Moyo has dismissed the tweet that was sent from the minister’s Twitter handle on Monday as the work of a hacker. The account went dark on Tuesday last week just before the Zimbabwe Defence Forces (ZDF) seized power in military takeover a few hours later. Moyo is reported to be one of the G40 Faction members arrested by the military and currently in the military’s custody. However, yesterday a message was posted on the handle although it was promptly deleted.
Responding to inquiries from Reuters news agency, Moyo’s relative said Moyo was in Zimbabwe and that he was safe. Said the relative:
While he remains safe, he is not the one who posted that.
The tweet which was later deleted reads:
In these difficult & trying times that have been thrust upon our country, I wish to advise concerned family & friends that I’m relatively fine outside the country as are ministers Kasukuwere, Zhuwao, Hlongwane, Zhanda plus at least 50 others who include MPs & Zanu PF officials!
