Air Marshal Shiri Saves White Farmer From Being Evicted By Former Minister

Minister of Agriculture, Lands and Resettlement Air Chief Marshal (Retired) Perrance Shiri has intervened after Dovermvale Farm owned by David Worwick was invaded last year by Thabitha Kanengoni-Malinga. Kanengoni-Malinga, the former minister of state in former Vice President Phelekezela Mphoko’s office, and other Zanu-PF supporters invaded the farm after former President Robert Mugabe called for the eviction of the remaining white farmers in Mashonaland East at a Youth Interface Rally in Marondera in June 2016.

Shiri met with Worwick on Sunday and expressed his concerns that the invasion had affected the full utilisation of the property. Said Shiri:

We will have to urgently look into the issue with the resident minister (David Musabayana) and lands officials and come up with a position. I am concerned that the farm is not being fully utilised to its full capacity.

Said Worwick:

I am very grateful for the intervention made by the minister.

The High Court is yet to rule on an application filed by Worwick seeking to bar Kanengoni-Malinga from the farm.  The farm belonging to Worwick’s brother, Stephen Worwick, was also invaded by another former Cabinet minister, Edgar Mbwembwe.
