Chinamasa Defends Decision To Buy Chiefs Cars

Responding to questions raised at a recent business meeting in Harare over the purchase of cars for traditional chiefs in light of tight fiscal measures unveiled in the 2018 national budget, Finance and Economic Development Minister Patrick Chinamasa said it is fulfilling a promise made a few years ago.

Said Chinamasa:

The issue of cars for traditional chiefs is also in line with the new government’s initiative to ensure it can have a concerted stakeholder input on the implementation of key socio- economic developmental policies.

This however against Chinamasa’s pronouncement that there were no funds to procure vehicles for chiefs which amounted to US$14 million. Said Chinamasa:

Hence, the 2018 Budget took account of value for money and affordability as guiding principles in the allocation of resources, and is unable to provide for the above vehicle requests.
