"There Are Serious Tensions Between Mnangagwa And The Military" - Alleges Moyo

Exiled former Zanu-PF Minister and G40 Kingpin Professor Jonathan Moyo has alleged that there are serious tensions between President Emmerson Mnangagwa and his deputy Vice President, Retired General Constantino Chiwenga. Moyo alleges that despite his retirement from the military, Chiwenga is still the leader of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces (ZDF). In an interview with SABC’s foreign editor Sophie Mokoena, Moyo says:

He says one thing during the day and a completely different things happen at night. everyone now knows (that) there are serious tensions between him and the military cabal led by Chiwenga. Very Serious tensions.

Moyo did not give more detailed information to substantiate his claims. However, a few weeks back there were reports of a rift between the president and his deputy after Mnangagwa reversed the decision to fire almost the whole top brass of the Zimbabwe Republic Police.  The decision was allegedly made by General Chiwenga when Mnangagwa was out of the country. Presidential spokesperson George Charamba confirmed the reversal although he denied that there was any rift between the two men. Said Charamba,

Yes, it was done when the president was away and when he came back, he discovered we had thrown away the bath water with the child and corrective measures had to be taken.

They [Mnangagwa and Chiwenga] are all at one. The decision to reverse the dismissals was done by the president and his two deputies [Chiwenga and Kembo Mohadi]. We are actually out to evolve into a harmonious administration. Such allegations [of rift and conflict] are made by people who wish for us to go back to conflict.
