Man Amputated After Getting Drunk, Falling Asleep On Railway Track

Dambudzo Nyamusoro (35) of Odzi township lost one of his legs while the other one was broken when his legs were crushed by a goods train. Nyamusoro is reported to have been so drunk that he fell asleep on the Harare-Mutare railway line and was unable to hear the train’s warning horn. A staff member at Mutare Provincial Hospital told the Manica Post,

He said he was very drunk when the incident happened. He said he thought he had reached home and decided to sleep on the railway road. He is seriously injured and has a traumatic amputation and a broken leg,

Manicaland Police spokesperson Inspector Tavhiringwa Kakohwa confirmed the incident saying,

On approaching the 226 km peg, Imbayago (the engine operator) sounded the horn but despite doing so repeatedly, Nyamusoro did not hear the warning. The train hit him with the impact throwing him away from the track…Police attended the scene before taking the victim who is now admitted at Mutare Provincial Hospital.
