The Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (Zacc) cleared Mutasa South legislator Irene Zindi who was accused grabbing a Mutare City Council house.
Mutare City Council accused Zindi of fraudulently acquiring a council house during her tenure as caretaker commissioner. Zindi had stayed in the house when she was part of a commission running the affairs of Mutare City Council after the disbandment of the MDC-T-controlled council led by the late Misheck Kagurabadza a few years ago, and later acquired it.
In a letter addressed to Zindi’s lawyer, Passmore Nyakureba, Zacc commissioner in charge of investigations Goodson Nguni said they had investigated the matter and found that the properly was acquired legally. Said Nguni:
Please be advised that according to documentation provided on the matter, council resolved to sell Park House, stand 10401 located in Mutare to Honourable Zindi of which the honourable minister (Ignatious Chombo) paid for the stand.
When contacted for a comment by NewsDay, Zindi said she was happy the matter had been resolved.
