Mberengwa Villagers To Get Stands As Council Relocates Them From Mataga Growth Point

Villagers in Mberengwa who had been refusing to be relocated from Mataga Growth Point have finally given in to Council demands. The Mberengwa Rural District (RDC) had been up in arms with villagers (the Gorongwe community) living around Mataga Growth point for the past nineteen years. Mberengwa RDC intends to use the adjacent land for the expansion of the growth point. The two protagonists finally signed a Memorandum of Association (MoU). The MoU was signed after the Centre for Conflict Management and Transformation (CCMT) brought the two parties together. The villagers were promised residential stands by the council. Council planning officer Pedzisai Mwedzi said

The council could not develop, subdivide Gorongwe community land since the villagers were refusing to relocate and 19 years were wasted. If development had started 19 years ago, Mataga growth point could have been more developed than other growth points in the country.
