Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) released US$1,2 million to Harare City Council for the procurement of water treatment chemicals.
Council requires an average of $2,5 million to $2,8 million every month to pay for the chemicals. Harare corporate communications manager Michael Chideme said they had run out of some of the chemicals. Said Chideme:
We appreciate the continued commitment by the central bank to assist us in paying our two water chemical suppliers in foreign currency. Already, we had run of out sulphuric acid and HTH chlorine. We now await the disbursement of the balance so that we can fully provide water to the people. Failure to deliver water would negatively impact on the health of our citizens and the economy
