President Emmerson Mnangagwa has called for the tightening of by-laws against littering in the country as a way of keeping the environment clean.
Mnangagwa led the monthly National Environment Cleaning Day exercise in Harare on Friday. He planted indigenous trees and did some cleaning at the Mbuya Nehanda ward at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals.
Cabinet Ministers Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri (Defence and War Veterans), Mthuli Ncube (Finance and Economic Development) and Obadiah Moyo (Health and Child Care) accompanied Mnangagwa during the campaign.
Mnangagwa said that Zimbabwe should emulate countries such as Rwanda where it is a criminal offence to urinate or spit on the road or walk on grass along the road. He said:
The by-laws of littering must be tightened such that we do not litter everywhere.
