Tsvangirai's Memorial Service Date Moved To May To Give People Time To Prepare - MDC Spokesperson

The late founding president of the MDC Morgan Tsvangirai’s memorial service date has been moved from this month to May.

Tsvangirai died on Valentine’s Day in 2018 and his memorial service was supposed to be held this month, exactly a year after his death.

The MDC said the situation currently prevailing in the country, characterised by extra-judicial killings of activists was not conducive to hold the service. Party spokesperson Jacob Mafume had this to say:

As a party, we are looking forward to giving our founding leader a befitting memorial.

What is in doubt is the conditions currently prevailing in the country, whether there will be sufficient freedom of speech and freedom of movement.

The conditions in the country right now are making it difficult for the party to organise but we are hoping we will be able to properly prepare and give our former leader a suitable memorial.

We want to put a befitting memorial to Tsvangirai and, thus, we changed the dates. This will give people ample time to prepare.
