Fuel Crisis: There Is No Fuel Shortage - Transport Minister, Joram Gumbo

The ongoing fuel shortages in the country have resulted in another hike in transport fares by public transporters.

In Harare on Monday, hundreds of commuters were left stranded after kombis disappeared from the roads, with the few available increasing fares by over 100 per cent.

For instance, a journey from the city centre to Chitungwiza cost $5, having been $2 previously. Some people had to walk to their places of residence.

A Dzivaresekwa resident who spoke to NewZimbabwe.com said:

Fares have gone up. It would have been better if they hiked the fares while the transport is available to take us home.

However, Transport and Energy Minister Jorum Gumbo is adamant that the country has adequate fuel. Said Gumbo:

I have fuel in the country. If there are shortages it has to do with local companies failing to buy. It’s not my job to provide them with money.

You could check with the Reserve Bank (of Zimbabwe) and find out whether they have provided the requisite funds.
