Vandalism At Rev. Kunonga's Farm 'Saddens' Majongwe

Progressive Teachers’ Union of Zimbabwe Secretary-general Raymond Majongwe has bemoaned the destruction of a farm just outside Harare by one Reverend Kunonga.

Majongwe and his team visited the farm on Tuesday to ascertain the state of affairs at St Marnocks Primary School. Majongwe had this to say:

Today I paid a visit to a farm school St Marnocks Primary 18 km outside Harare. The farm owner Rev Kunonga is demanding 50 USD rent for the dilapidated houses from the teachers. The bad part is the school refurbished these derelict structures. What I saw is totally unacceptable.

There are about 25 unoccupied vandalized houses on this 480-hectare farm but Rev Kunonga wants rentals from 3 that was renovated by the school. This farm is said to have been employing about 500 workers but now only less than 5 are employed there. SAD

This 480-hectare farm known to have been very productive is producing NOTHING. Was told from 2003 since takeover no production has taken place. Told available centre pivots were vandalized and sold. How can this go unchecked surely?

All this equipment is not being utilized. Am told they house their goats in these structures. Surely? Hanzi they only discovered the maize in these silos 6 years after taking over the farm.

After a long wait Rev Kunonga came out but went into his house only to return. We guessed he had gone pick something. He did not entertain us and we were told “ get out of my property this matter has nothing to do with the Ministry of Education “ l quickly obliged sensing danger.
