A Gukurahundi Memorial plaque erected by Bulawayo pressure group, Ibhetshu LikaZulu, has been demolished. The plaque was erected last year.
The plaque read:
This Plaque was erected on the 25th of May 2018
In Loving memory of our innocent and defenceless children, mothers & fathers who perished during the Gukurahundi, Matebeleland genocide 1983-1987

Bulawayo journalist Zenzele commented on the demolition:
The Guilty are Afraid. They may destroy the Memorial plaques that we erect on crimes scenes across Matebeleland but they will never erase Gukurahundi from our memories .what kind if gvt can not even respect the dead?.
