Fuel Supply Won't Be Interrupted By Cyclone Idai - Energy Minister

The Minister of Energy and Power Development has moved in to assure the nation that Tropical Cyclone Idai would not disrupt fuel supplies to the country.

This follows speculation that the cyclone had destroyed key infrastructure at Beira port in Mozambique where oil if offloaded.
Minister Gumbo rejected those claims on Monday. He said:

We receive our fuel through the pipeline and it has not been disturbed by the rains. We will not be affected by anything at all.

Unless there are other developments …. the fuel situation is under control.

Meanwhile, Energy secretary Gloria Magombo revealed that the country has alternative routes to bring in the precious liquid. Said Magombo:

Please, take note that the country also has other alternative fuel supply routes – by railway from South Africa and Matola in Mozambique or road transport from other neighbouring countries which can be used when necessary.

We will continue to closely monitor the situation and maintain constant communication with our representatives and counterparts in Beira.
