Fire At New Central Registry Building

Fire At New Central Registry Building

Fire broke out early yesterday morning at the new Central Registry Building in Harare.

Authorities suspect the fire was an act of arson attempted by criminal elements. Security guards at the building put out the fire that burnt some copper cables on the balcony of the third floor. The cables that were burnt were being used to fix the building. By the time the fire brigade and police rushed to the scene, security guards had extinguished it using a fire hose.

Registrar-General, Clement Masango, confirmed the incident but said he suspected foul play. Masango said it was unusual for copper cables to be left on the balcony as technicians would ordinarily secure them in a safe place.
