Tedious Muchapedza Matsito Dies

Sungura musician Tedious Muchapedza Matsito has died. According to iharare, Matsito died early Wednesday morning at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals where he was admitted.

Matsito was being treated for an undisclosed illness according to the report.

He suffered a number of strokes over the past few years after being involved in two car crashes.

In an interview with The Herald in 2017, Matsito said:

It was in 2008 when the problems started after an accident on our way from one of our many Mozambican tours. It was in the month of August when we, as Ngwenya Brothers, finished our last show in Mozambique all agreed to rest and proceed later that day to Harare.

While we were in Mozambique we had a minor accident. Our car veered off the road, but we escaped without injuries.

Matsito reportedly had another accident after he had crossed the border back into Zimbabwe.

The accident killed his brothers Luckmore and Domingo, as well as a female dancer, died. His Ngwenya Brothers band also lost all its equipment.

His leg was amputated in 2012, then in 2016, he suffered a mild stroke that affected his speech while he was on a tour of South Africa. In February 2018, he suffered another stroke that rendered him invalid.

Tedious Muchapedza Matsito is best known for his hits of yesteryear, Gede Mwana and Nyaradzo.
