Lawrence Zinhumwe pleaded guilty to indecent assault charges when he appeared before Mutare Magistrate Tendai Mahwe. He is believed to have indecently assaulted his epileptic daughter by forcing her to massage his privates which he claimed was giving him pain.
The court found him guilty and sentenced him to twelve months behind bars. Magistrate Mahwe, however, ordered a lengthy custodial sentence considering that Zinhumwe once impregnated his niece sometime back.
The court was told that Zinhumwe committed the assaults in August 2018 when his wife was away. Fletcher Karombe, the prosecutor further informed the court that the assault was exposed when Zinhumwe’s wife was questioning her daughter about her pregnancy. The pregnancy is believed to be from another man.
Zinhumwe’s wife then accompanied the victim to the police where they filed charges of indecent assault leading to the arrest of the accused.
A medical examination to establish Znhumwe’s insanity was conducted and it proved that he was of sound mind.
