Earlier today, in a story summary titled “Intelligence Sources Suggest G40 Is Buying Weapons“, we used a picture of a member of the Akashinga anti-poaching group.
This was inappropriate and it is wrong. At least 2 readers got in touch and we thank them for demanding that we be accountable and that we do better.
We have since taken the picture down and replaced it with a more appropriate one. We have also deleted/replaced the picture on social media platforms where the story had been shared.
We apologise unreservedly to Akashinga, the individual in the picture that we used, and to you our readers for the incident.
Onward, we are making sure that our editorial process doesn’t allow this to happen again.
