The government said it is aware of the big people who are behind the escalating foreign currency black market.
Monica Mutsvangwa, Minister of Information, Media and Broadcasting Services told the media during a post-cabinet briefing that the people behind the deals will be exposed soon. Said Mutsvangwa:
Do you think those young people without shoes are the ones who are behind the parallel market? It will be folly to believe that. We know that they are big people behind them. I think it is time we start to deal with that and expose these people.
The parallel market rates have spiralled out of control since the government put an end to fuel subsidies.
As of Tuesday, the USD$ was going for RTGS$7.30 in electronic money transfer while it was changing hands for $5 in bond notes.
