A Thomson Reuters Foundation story says that homeless boys in Bulawayo are resorting to gay sex work to make ends meet. Some of them are as young as 14 years. They are paid about $10 Bond Bonds for 30 minutes.
One boy, named Tapiwa, who had run away from an abusive stepmother, spoke to the reporter:
There’s a brothel on 12th Avenue here in the city where my friends and I solicit for sex in exchange for money.
A Bulawayo City Council spokesperson said they were not aware of the brothel in question and would investigate the matter. They also encouraged that the matter be reported to the police.
