3 Men Jailed Over Fake US$ Notes

Chivhu magistrate, Felix Chauromwe, has sentenced three Chivhu men to spend 12 months in jail for possessing fake US$30 notes each.

The trio, Tafadzwa Mudzingwa (29), Pilani Moyo (24) and Edinos Jakwi (23) on Thursday pleaded guilty when they of the charges laid down against them.

One of the accused, Moyo, told the court that he got the fake notes from South Africa.

Representing the State, prosecutor Thomas Mushangidze, told the court that the trio was arrested after the police got a tipoff on June 18, 2019, that Mudzingwa and Moyo were in possession of counterfeit notes. The police searched the pair at their residence and recovered three US$10 notes and one R200 note.

The duo later implicated Jakwi who was also arrested.

The recovered notes were taken to CBZ Bank in Chivhu, where certificates of counterfeit notes were issued.
