"We Need To Talk Openly If We Want Closure To Gukurahundi" VP Mohadi

Vice President, Kembo Mohadi, has said that everlasting solutions and closure to the Gukurahundi issue can only come if people speak freely and openly on the matter.

Speaking after meeting with chiefs from Matabeleland South in Gwanda Town in a closed-door meeting yesterday, VP Mohadi said:

I am happy that people are talking about it and that is the only way we can bring closure to this issue. We are going to get closure. Some suggestions were brought about during our meeting including compensation for the victims, openly talking about the issue and other developmental issues such as why we lag behind other provinces.

We now need to find total closure and discuss issues freely and openly, Gukurahundi must not be a thing that is spoken in the dark alleys of the streets, talk about it and we will get a solution.

Mohadi said that Gukurahundi was not the first form of conflict to have been experienced in Zimbabwe. He made reference to conflicts amongst liberation movements in the 1960s and between Rhodesians and blacks which resulted in many people losing their lives. He said that despite all that, there was reconciliation and there is one country for all.

He also applauded the chiefs for the meeting and said that he hoped to meet with them again on various other matters.
