Court Cancels Arrest Warrant For ZANU PF Member Of Parliament

ZANU PF member of Parliament for Chakari Constituency, Andrew Nkani, yesterday successfully applied for the cancellation of a warrant of arrest. The warrant had been issued against him after he had failed to come to court on Monday.

Nkani is being accused of defrauding 100 teachers in the Progressive Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (PTUZ) Housing Cooperative of $80 000 in a 2011 residential land scam.

The legislator, who is representing Forward Housing Cooperative, reportedly asked the teachers to pay the money as upfront for residential stands.

Nkani, however, failed to deliver on his part of the agreement as he only managed to provide 40 stands out of 100, five of which were double allocations.

When he appeared for a default inquiry, Nkani told presiding magistrate, Yeukai Chigodora, that he was advised by his lawyer that the matter had been rolled over to August 6. Chigodora cancelled the warrant and remanded the matter to August 6.
