Govt Planned To Give Khupe MDC Alliance's Money - Hwende
The MDC has accused Finance Minister Mthuli Ncube and Information Permanent Secretary Ndavaningi Nick Mangwa of lying over the disbursement of funds under the Political Parties Finance Act.
Party secretary-general, Chalton Hwende told Mangwana that the government intended to give MDC-T president Thokozani Khupe the funds meant for the MDC Alliance. Writing to Mangwana on Twitter, Hwende said:
We now know that after ZANU PF had been paid you went to ask Prof Madhuku to write a letter to Min of Justice claiming the same money on behalf of Khupe and we are told Today the Min is writing to us stating that because of the letter from Madhuku they can’t pay us.
FeedbackHwende had earlier commented on the government’s statement that no party has yet received the funds by saying:
The reason why people don’t have confidence in this Government is that they lie.
Mthuli Ncube gave Min of Justice the money for political parties ZANU PF received their money last week.
They are now looking for ways of denying us our funds.
The above remark from Hwende had prompted Mangwana to insist that no funds have been disbursed under the Political Parties Finance Act. Said Mangwana:
What I am telling you is the correct position. The minister may have given that policy direction but have checked with my counterpart.
Nobody has been paid, Hon. In any case, the Ministry of Justice is not ZANU PF. Payment to them is not a payment to the latter.
Under the Act:
… each political party whose candidates received at least five per centum of the total number of votes cast in the most recent general election shall be entitled to the same proportion of the total moneys appropriated as the total number of votes cast for its candidates in the election bears to the aggregate of votes cast for all political parties that qualify to be paid…
