Doctors Declare Incapacitation, Issue Govt 3 Weeks Notice

The Zimbabwe Hospital Doctors Association (ZHDA) has written to the Health Services Board (HSB) demanding that the government increase their salaries nine-fold using the interbank rate. Part of the letter reads:
It is against this background that we, the ZHDA Provincial Representatives hereby notify you that we have conducted nationwide consultations with members and the following concerns have been raised:
1. We have been subsiding the employer by going to work every day on our little savings and/or borrowed funds
2. Our living conditions have become a health hazard and mental depressant to both us and patients
3. Negotiations between the government and the Health Apex have been slothful if anything in addressing our concerns
The following resolutions have been made by our members:
1. We request that the employer adjusts our earnings according to the inter-market bank rate which currently sits at 8.7
2. We hereby give notice of total incapacitation with immediate effect, giving the employer a grace period of three (3) weeks upon receipt of this letter to present practical solutions to our financial crises
The relevant ministry and the ZHDA are, by a copy of this letter; hereby notified of these developments. The ZHDA members remain committed to providing quality health services to our fellow countrymen.
