Cop Arrested For "We're Suffering Because Of ED Mnangagwa" Remarks

A Lupane-based police officer, Taison Hove (29), was arrested and charged with contravening section 35 of the schedule to the Police Act Chapter 11:10 after he insinuated that president Emmerson Mnangagwa was the root cause of all problems in the country.

It is alleged that on the 3rd of January this year, Hove who was drinking with his friends at Lupane Business Centre saw an individual who was wearing a ZANU PF t-shirt.

Hove allegedly mocked the T-shirt saying that it was not worthy of wearing at all other occasions save for attending the fields. The police officer reportedly added that Mnangagwa who had failed to run the country should hand over power to opposition MDC leader, Nelson Chamisa.

Hove is quoted as having said:

We are suffering because of ED Mnangagwa, and we are paid money equivalent to US$100.

His lawyer, Bruce Masamvu, said that they had filed an application for review of the proceedings and ruling at the High Court after Police disciplinary committee dismissed the application for discharge.

He added that they were awaiting the High Court dates for the review proceedings.

Hove first appeared before a Lupane magistrate early this year, but the matter is currently awaiting the Prosecutor-General’s consent to go on trial

Workers across all sectors in Zimbabwe have been lamenting over the erosion of their salaries by the soaring inflation.

The local currency which workers get is constantly shedding value against the United States dollar.
