ED Advises ZIFA On How To Better Manage The Sport

The Zimbabwe Football Association presidium, comprised of the president, Felton Kamambo, and acting vice-president, Phillemon Machana, met with President Emmerson Mnangagwa to brief him on the recently held Africa Cup of Nations tournament.

ZIFA CEO, Joseph Mamutse, revealed in a statement that Kamambo and Machana apologised on behalf of the association for the embarrassing AFCON display which saw the country’s soccer senior men, the Warriors, crushing out of the tournament.

The Warriors camp was full of drama with players and the management clashing at some point over unpaid salaries and bonuses. Part of the statement reads:

The presidium thanked the President for the critical role he had played in setting up, leading and galvanising the fundraising campaign effort. Zifa is grateful that in spite of the embarrassment that His Excellency Cde ED Mnangagwa may have endured as a result of the unfortunate events during the Africa Cup of Nations, the President of Zimbabwe upon getting a full briefing and apology from the Zifa presidium, accepted such and even jovially and in fatherly-style proffered suggestions on how Zifa can better manage the sport and such tournaments going forward.

The statement also revealed that ZIFA has been given the go-ahead to use the remainder of the resources from the tournament to finance the association’s outstanding financial obligations.
