MDC Calls For ED To Be Sent To ICC Mere Efforts To Force Govt Into Surrendering Power - Govt

The government has said that the MDC’s calls for President Mnangagwa to be sent to Hague, the International Criminal Court, was a way of blackmailing the government into surrendering power.

Responding to MDC vice-chairperson, Job Sikhala’s remarks, the permanent secretary in the ministry of Information, Nick Mangwana said:

Mr Sikhala can shout Hague 70 times seven times, but his fantasy of getting into power through the backdoor will not be realised. He can give as many ultimatums as he wishes, but the government will not be blackmailed to surrender the will of the people to them just because they have invited suffering upon the nation.

Those who threaten implied insurgency upon this nation, like Mr Sikhala has recently taken to doing, should know that our appetite for reform is not a sign of a weak State. The State remains as strong as ever and as determined as ever to ensure peace, law and order remains the norm in this country. So today, we count him shouting ‘Hague’ once. He still has a long way to shout thus.

Sikhala’s remarks follow alleged abductions on MDC members and some human rights defenders ahead of MDC demonstrations that were slated for the 16th and 19th of August.

Some of the abducted individuals sustained broken legs and fractured hands.
