Transport Ministry Mobilising Funds For Harare - Beitbridge Road

A director at the Ministry of Transport has told the Newsday that ZINARA is mobilising funds to repair the Beitbridge Harare road which has become a death trap due to its condition. The Harare Beitbridge stretch has deteriorated on many parts with the Harare Chivhu stretch, Chivi Office Turn-off to Beitbridge stretch being the worst parts of the road.

The Rutenga Beitbridge stretch of the Harare Beitbridge highway was credited for many accidents with the latest accident having been recorded last week as a bus trying to avoid a pothole veered off the road and landed on its side killing 5 people.

One ZINARA Director Kudzanayi Chinyanga speaking to the publication said:

We are mobilising resources to do a blitz on those (damaged) sections. Hopefully, Treasury will provide the money by next week so that we commence work. My provincial heads are working on that.

It is still not clear how much treasury will extend to the ministry to patch up the dilapidated road which on a daily basis see a staggering 5000 vehicles pass through it.
