Chitungwiza Mayor, Maiko Arrested For Torching ZBC Van

Chitungwiza Mayor, Lovemore Maiko, was on Tuesday arrested for allegedly setting on fire a Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC) vehicle during protests that took place in Harare in 2016.
Maiko is an MDC Alliance councillor and was arrested alongside councillor for Ward 21 in Chitungwiza Kudakwashe John.
The duo is already on remand over illegal land sales in the municipality.
The Mayor’s arrest was confirmed by National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi on Thursday. He said:
We can confirm that Chitungwiza Mayor Lovemore Maiko and Kudakwashe John have been arrested in connection with the video footage. They are currently in police custody.

They are expected to appear in court tomorrow (today).
