Relatives Insist Mugabe Will Be Buried In Home Village - Report

3 family members of former President Robert Mugabe have told Reuters that they want Mugabe to be buried at his rural home in Zvimba instead of the National Heroes Acre. Last month it emerged that the Mugabe had told relatives that he didn’t want to be buried at the Heroes Acre. A family member involved in the planning of the funeral told the same publication that the family had compromised in having the by agreeing to have a state funeral led by the government on Saturday but is insisting that Mugabe would be buried at Kutama, his place of birth.

One relative who refused to be named who spoke to Reuters said:

The family has made a decision that Mudhara will be buried at Kutama – that is the position – but the government is still engaging the family to try to have him buried at (National) Heroes Acre.

What is clear is that there is no agreement on the place of burial. Even the government statement does not address that issue. It is not settled

The government has however circulated a Memo that says Mugabe’s funeral will be held on Saturday at the National Sports stadium. It doesn’t specify where he will be buried.
