ZIFA: No Warriors Have Been Banned

The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) has dismissed claims that it has banned several players from the national team set-up for leading protests in Egypt during the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations finals.

There were reports of unrest within the Warriors camp over the issue of players’ allowances throughout the unsuccessful campaign.

Following the resignation of Sunday Chidzambga as Warriors coach and the sacking of his two assistants, Rahman Gumbo and Lloyd Mutasa, interim coach, Joey Antipas, was reportedly instructed by ZIFA to drop several players from the World Cup Qualifier against Somalia.

However, ZIFA president Felton Kamambo told reporters on Thursday that no player was banned from The Warriors. He said:

There is no player who was banned, the coach is free to select any player he wants to.
