AFM Reformist Faction Barred From Using Church

An Apostolic Faith Mission (AFM) in Zimbabwe faction aligned to Reverend Amon Madawo was reportedly denied access to the use of the Avondale church in Harare on Sunday by the rival Reverend Cossam Chiangwa-affiliated faction.

According to the Daily News, the Madawo faction was having their praise and worship in a tent at the same time Pastor Vitalis Makarichi, who is said to be loyal to Chiangwa, led another sermon inside the church.

One Pastor Oliver Mutasa, who was leading the group inside the tent, told the publication that they had tried to engage Makarichi in a bid to have turns to use the venue and no agreement could be reached. Said Mutasa:

You understand that what you are seeing here, the church and everything was acquired by members, but they come here and are denied the use of the church. We tried to engage our brothers, but they do not want to see us holding even the microphone and have shut us out.

What is actually surprising is that our group is the one that was favoured by the High Court and although they are appealing the decision, we thought they would understand and allow us to use the church in the morning and themselves in the afternoon.

Meanwhile, officials from the Makarichi group reportedly refused to give an audience to the Daily News crew.

AFM has been split into two camps, one led by Madawo, the Reformists, since they wrote a new constitution, the other is led by Chiangwa, the Non-reformists as they have chosen to stick with the original constitution.
