The Zimbabwe Power Company (ZPC) has reported that it expects Unit 6 at Hwange Power Station to return to service in December.
Posting on Twitter, ZPC said that Unit 5 was now functional following the refurbishment. The post reads:
Following the refurbishment of Unit5 at HPS, the station is consistently running 5 units at an average of 500MW. Unit6 is expected to return to service in December. ZPC remains committed to maintain plant efficiency by adhering to scheduled maintenance programmes
The development comes when the country has a huge power deficit which compelled it to engage South Africa and Mozambique for more electricity imports.
Meanwhile, Zimbabwe is also expected to export 50 megawatts to Namibia as per the 2015 agreement which saw Namibia power utility, Nampower rehabilitating Hwange Power Station’s Unit 3.
