ZCTU Blames Govt For Threats On Leaders' Lives

Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) president Peter Mutasa has blamed the government for several death threats he has been receiving over the past few months.

Mutasa has asked why people who commit minor offences are arrested while those committing huge crimes are allowed to roam free. He said:

These are barbaric and sadistic. That people can even threaten to gang-r_pe a minor for the role her father plays in representing workers.

This is pathetic and we hold the government accountable. How can all these threats and abductions go on without a lead or arrests in this security-tight country?

Mutasa and ZCTU secretary-general Japhet Moyo claims to have been receiving death threats since the union called for a highly successful stay away in January this year in protest over a fuel price hike announced by President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

The duo received death threats through text messages on Econet-registered phone numbers, warning them against making certain decisions in the course of their duties as trade unionists.
