ZESA To Increase Power Cuts

The rolling power cuts that are being experienced in Zimbabwe are set to worsen after South Africa’s power utility, Eskom Holdings SOC Ltd. announced power blackouts.

Zimbabwe has a non-binding agreement to import up to 400 megawatts from Eskom, while an additional 100 megawatts is imported from Mozambique. In a text message to Bloomberg, ZESA Holdings spokesman Fullard Gwasira said:

The corresponding decline in imports will be reflected in increased load shedding.

Residents and in some cases industrial areas go for 18 hours without electricity. Currently, Zimbabwe spends $23 million monthly on electricity imports, according to the power utility.
