UK Prime Minister Promises "Fast Track NHS Visa" For Overseas Medical Practitioners

UK Prime Minister, Boris Johnson has promised to quicken the “NHS visa” facility for overseas doctors and nurses once the Brexit deal succeeds.

Mr Johnson and the Tories party want to make it easy for medical caregivers to apply and get jobs in the United Kingdom so as to support the public health sector.

Al Jazeera reports that under the scheme, the cost of a visa for healthcare professionals would be halved from 928 pounds ($1,190) to 464 pounds ($590), while applicants would be guaranteed a decision within two weeks.

The development comes when the health sector in Zimbabwe is in a sorry state due to lack of adequate medicines and equipment.

The doctors and nurses industrial action which started on the third of September this year only exacerbated the already dire situation.

The announcement by the Conservatives is definitely music to the ears of Zimbabwean health caregivers following the dismissal of some doctors by the state for the “illegal industrial action”.

Workers and the government are failing to agree on the best way forward to address the issue after workers rejected a number of government offers which they regarded as insignificant in “this inflationary economy”.
