Soldiers Brave Fire To Retrieve Goods From Burning Bus

Members of the Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) have been lauded for saving goods belonging to cross-border traders when a Harare-bound bus from Gaborone in Botswana caught fire near Gweru on Sunday.

One of the passengers on the bus, a Ms Gloria Mwale, a cross border trader from Kwekwe told the Chronicle at the accident scene that most of the goods were loaded on the trailer and the inferno was threatening to engulf it. She said:

Fortunately, an army truck came from nowhere and the brave soldiers disembarked and like I was now watching an action movie they rescued our goods which were in the trailer.

Goods that were loaded on the trailer included electrical goods, blankets, smartphones and chargers.

The City Bus developed a mechanical fault and caught fire around 12:30 PM near Tree Tops Tollgate, about 20km from Gweru along the Bulawayo Road.

All that 40 passengers disembarked safely but the bus itself was burnt to a shell.
